The elephants raise their heads and watch impassively as you pass. A horseback safari is like no other experience.

You can stay out all morning with a packed breakfast in nature and come back for lunch. You can have a packed lunch and be out all day. Or you can take a short evening tour, perhaps stopping for a sunset while the sky turns pink and the sun slips on the horizon. Imagine riding a horse while impalas jump and gazelles graze around you. PROGRAM

A day could begin at first light as the dawn chorus resounds in the trees. Set off with your horse while the sky sparkles and the trembling grasses dance in the wind of dawn. Watching the animals wake up after the long night. At a viewpoint you will stop for one of the great joys of safaris: a breakfast in the wilderness with the animals around you.

After breakfast, you will take a leisurely drive back to the camp. Your afternoon could be spent in the refreshment area watching the animals go by, a nature walk to spot smaller species or in your river tent enjoying a well deserved siesta. The animals take it easy during the hottest hours of the day, staying away from the sunny plains, often dozing under shady bushes or hiding under trees.

In the evening you can go out on horseback again and watch the animals as they have fun in the cool of the evening. While the clouds sparkle and the sky sizzles, stop for another of the great traditions of Africa: the sunset. Whether your drink is a gin and tonic, the famous Kenyan Tusker beer or simply fresh spring water, the glass in your hand will make the sky more pink and the view more beautiful.

“I only wanted one thing at the time: to go back to Africa. I hadn't left it yet, but every time I woke up, at night, I listened, filled with nostalgia.

— Ernest Hemingway
